Public Access Computer

Before using any Public Access Computer, each patron must complete a registration form.  Anyone under age 18 must have their parent complete this form for them.

Before using any Public Access Computer, each patron's account must be up to date.  Any patron in possession of overdue or lost materials or fines will not be allowed access.

The Library is not responsible for any information found on any Public Access Computer, no matter the format (encyclopedias, Internet), since the Library has no control over these resources.

Some material on the Internet is not appropriate for viewing by children.  Parents have responsibility to monitor and supervise their children's use of any Public Access computer.

Any parent who does not wish their child to use the Public Access Computer must submit this request in writing to the Library Staff.

Time on the Public Access Computer is limited to 30 minutes.

Computers may be reserved ahead of time.

Children take priority over adults to the computer designated for children.

If a patron wishes to print, he first needs to let Library Staff know.

Printing jobs must be completed 10 minutes before closing.

Patrons must perform their own Internet search; staff are willing to assist in this.  However, staff are not trained computer technicians and may not know how to resolve a particular problem.

If a patron is displaying material or making sounds on a computer that is disruptive to other users, they will be asked to exit that site. In addition, they may forfeit their remaining time online.  Serious misuse of the Public Access Computers will result in being barred from any future use.

Users of Public Access Computers must adhere to copyright and/or software licenses.

Patrons may access their e-mail accounts; however the Library does not provide email accounts for its patrons.

No outside devices are allowed to be plugged into the library computers.

Controls put on the computers by the library's Computer Technician may not be overridden by the staff.

Patrons may not:

  • Use Library computers for illegal activity.
  • Use Library computers to access material that is legally defined as obscenity, child pornography, or harmful to minors.
  • Use the network for unauthorized access or "hacking" into any computational, financial informational or communication services or resources.
  • Distribute unsolicited advertising.
  • Invade the privacy of others by misrepresenting oneself as another user or attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords or data belonging to others.
  • Add, delete, damage, vandalize or modify the installed hardware or software.
  • Engage in any activity that is harassing or defamatory.
  • Deliberately propagate computer worms or viruses.
