Toter General Information

Fremont converted to the use of toters for trash collection on July 1, 2008.  It has saved the Town thousands of dollars annually in solid waste tipping fees, as people recycle more and more so that there are only non-recyclable items in the toter for disposal.

Each household receives one 64 gallon cart in which all of your trash must be placed. If you move from Fremont, please leave the toter behind as each was issued to a specific address and serial number for identification purposes. If you are completing new home construction, contact the Select Board's Office at 603 895 2226  x 302 Kathy or x 303 Jeanne to order a new toter, once you have been issued an occupancy certificate.

Trash left in any other container or bag will not be collected.

Using Your Toter

  • Roll the toter out to the curb by 6:00 am on your collection day.
  • Wheels should be facing the house (away from the street).
  • Bag all trash within your toter.
  • Place the toter no more than three (3) feet away from the curb and at least five (5) feet away from other containers, such as toys, a fence or your recycling bins.
  • No waste material left outside the toter will be collected.  All refuse must fit in the toter so the lid closes.  No material should be left sticking out of the toter.
  • The truck's lifting arm needs five (5) feet on either side of the rolling cart to wrap around the toter.  Do not place toters behind parked cars or other obstructions.
  • Place the toter away from low phone or electrical wires, low hanging tree branches or other overhead obstructions.  A twelve (12) foot vertical clearance is necessary for the truck's lifting arm to elevate the toter.
  • Be sure the arrows on the lid are pointing toward the street and the hinges face away from the street.  This allows the lid to open fully when the toter is tipped over above the truck bay.  If the hinges face the wrong way, the lid or hinges may be damaged.
  • Only one toter is allowed per household unit.  An ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) is defined per RSA 674:71 as a residential living unit that is within or attached to a single-family dwelling, these units are not eligible for a separate toter.  Waste Management has been in the field and is removing additional toters found at single family homes.

Do I have to bag my Trash?  Yes, residents must bag all refuse prior to placement in the container to keep the container clean and sanitary, and to help prevent litter on windy days.

I'm cleaning out the garage and have a lot of refuse to get rid of right away.  Where can I dispose of it?  The automated refuse collection program is not intended to provide this type of service.  The resident must be responsible for the disposal.  For larger projects Waste Management or other vendors can also provide temporary containers of varying sizes for your needs.  The Town does offer two annual BULKY drop-off events for this type of disposal.

What if my container is stolen or damaged?  Each household will receive one specialized container.  You are responsible for the security of the container.  In the event of damage caused by the contractor or normal wear, Waste Management will replace the container free of charge.  Damages resulting from negligence or abuse by the resident will be the responsibility of the resident.  Call the Select Board's Office with any questions 603 895 2226 x 302 Kathy or x 303 Jeanne.  Also call us if you need a repair or a replacement.

Will we still have curbside recycling services?  Absolutely!  All residents are urged to recycle all materials collected under our curbside recycling program.  Recyclables will continue to be collected every week on your regular collection day.  Please keep your recycling bin at least 5' away from the trash cart.
